　　以哺乳類和爬行類為對象，研究動物行為的生態適應、行為的生理調節與遺傳進化、動物行為與物種保護的關係；關注保護生物學熱點問題，開展瀕危物種保護及生物多樣性監測研究。

研究經曆
承擔或參加了科技部國家重點基礎研究發展規劃、科技部科技基礎性工作專項、環保部“十一五”科技支撐計劃，國家自然科學基金，中國科學院知識創新工程等多個項目。
自1996年，以麋鹿和梅花鹿等為對象，研究了行為對策的適應性和內分泌調節，揭示了有蹄類動物適應自然和社會環境的行為生態學機製。另外，還以普氏原羚等為研究對象，研究了人類幹擾對動物行為的影響，闡明了動物行為與物種保護的關係。相關結果在國際重要學術雜誌Animal Production Science, Hormones and Behavior，Ethology，Zoo Biology，Wildlife Research，General and Comparative Endocrinology，Mammalian Biology，Acta Ethologica，PLoS One等和一些國內核心雜誌上發表。
還以青海沙蜥和草原沙蜥為對象，研究了荒漠爬行動物行為學和生理生態學內容，發現了爬行動物適應荒漠嚴酷環境的行為對策和生理機製。有關結果發表在Journal of Arid Environments，Current Zoology，Biological Rhythm Research，PeerJ和Asian Herpetological Research上。李春旺還與美國和俄羅斯科學家開展了合作，研究了蒙古瞪羚的生態與分布，人類活動對黃腹旱獺行為的影響等，部分結果已經在Applied Animal Behaviour Science上發表，並被美國Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory（RMBL）選為示範研究（http://www.digitalrmbl.org/case-studies/ecology-of-fear-marmot-paper/）。
從事研究工作以來，發表研究論文90餘篇，其中SCI論文40餘篇，第一或通訊作者SCI論文20篇（已被引300餘次）；主編（副）或參加編寫著作7部，其中英文編著2部；另外還有譯作4部。他還先後主持或參加了20多個自然保護區（保護地）的生物多樣性野外考察，獲得了那些地區野生動物及棲息地的動態數據，完成了考察報告，撰寫了相應編著。
